Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. (Mk 11:24)
There are so many things I love about my mother. One of them is she is a mighty prayer warrior. When I need someone to pray for me the first person who comes to my mind is always my mother. Sure enough, every time I tell her what is going on in my life, she will ask to pray for me. Her soft, gentle hands embracing mine when she prays for me coupled with her fierce and strong faith make me feel like I can go through anything in life.
My mother has three daughters who love the Lord. She attributes this to the faithful prayers of my grandmother. I had two scary pregnancies, one of them almost resulting in the loss of my son. My mother told me when I called her from the doctor’s office she got scared but then went to the Lord in prayer. She said after she prayed it was done. She knew everything was going to be o.k. Sure enough I delivered my premature, healthy baby boy.
When my mother prays, she truly believes the Lord hears her prayers and because she prays with faith, whatever she asks in Jesus’ name will be done. And so many times it is. Matthew 21:22 says, “And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.” There are many instances in scripture where Jesus acted on behalf of someone ‘according to their faith’ (Mt 9:29).
I have wrestled with verses like these. Sometimes I don’t like them. Does this mean if my grandmother did not pray with faith, we would not be believers? Or if my mom did not pray with faith I would have lost my son, Whitaker? What if I am scared and I don’t have that faith? Will Jesus not work on my behalf?
I honestly don’t have all the answers. But the verses are there. The Lord delights in child-like faith because He delights in His children trusting His power and His love. I have asked the Lord to increase my faith and I am learning to pray boldly. Will you join me?
