Meet The God of Victory

“For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world – our faith. Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?” I John 5:4-5

All victories in the world are temporary. I challenge you to name one that isn’t. World cup victors and Olympians hold title for 4 years, Super Bowl champs only one. Next year there will be a new batch of world’s greatest fighters in each division. World records will be broken and title holders will pass away. Some of the greatest victors are those who pass through the waters of illness and escape the chains of cancer. Yet, at some point, all heroes die.

The world wasn’t intended to be this way. But it was broken by sin. We are broken people with a selfish sin nature that drives us into cycles of defeat chasing temporary victories. But there is “the victory that has overcome the world – our faith.”

You can keep fighting for your next victory or you can place your faith in The God of Victory.

What is faith? “Being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.” Aren’t we surer of what we see and certain of all the obstacles that stand in our way? Jesus came to give us life to the full. He sacrificed his life to reconcile sinful man to holy God. His resurrection conquered sin and death. Satan’s mission is to steal, kill and destroy. He has domain over this earth in this season. He is the author of the obstacles that steal your attention from eternal victory.
Your eyes are well-trained to focus on the obstacles in this world. Let me invite you to gaze upon The God of Victory.

“Then I saw heaven opened, and a white horse was standing there. Its rider was named Faithful and True, for he judges fairly and wages a righteous war. His eyes were like flames of fire, and on his head were many crowns. A name was written on him that no one understood except himself. He wore a robe dipped in blood, and his title was the Word of God. The armies of heaven, dressed in the finest of pure white linen, followed him on white horses. From his mouth came a sharp sword to strike down the nations. He will rule them with an iron rod. He will release the fierce wrath of God, the Almighty, like juice flowing from a winepress. On his robe at his thigh was written this title: King of all kings and Lord of all lords.”

What obstacles of this world can stand in the way of The God of Victory?

And He said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts. He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son.

Jesus said, “In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”  You can, too.

“Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God.” And, “For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world – our faith.”
