Super Heroes

“We rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.” Romans 5:3-4

Hollywood is the birthplace of a $90B industry that sells stories. We love the thrill of an impossible situation, a villain, a sacrificial hero who bursts forth in supernatural strength to deliver hope to the hopeless. Have you noticed that most movies are modeled after the greatest story ever told? Sinful man is reconciled to holy God through the perfect sacrifice of his One and Only Son, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world, stripping power from the kingdom of darkness and eternally establishing The Kingdom of God.

As a child I remember loving the heroes of Star Wars. Before Star Wars: The Force Awakens was released, our family watched the sequels. The big plastic Jabba The Hutt blob that could be made in my kitchen, renewed my appreciation for how far cinematography has come. My daughters were too embraced by the story to notice.

What is it about Luke that makes my 7 year old daughter, Sagan Elizabeth, want to change her name to Sagan Skywalker? We hang on to our heroes because they give us hope. Hope that we can be stronger than we are. Hope that we too can be a part of good conquering evil. It’s in each of our souls. Only the courageous are brave enough to draw it out.

There are heroes all around us. Their stories are captured and shared here on our website. Sacred Story provides a voice for women to encourage women in every chapter of their lives through sharing God’s faithfulness. Sacred Story’s mission is to be known across the globe for helping women who have experienced God’s faithfulness flourish by offering an avenue to share hope in Jesus Christ. What women might normally diminish in their lives as negative, we inspire them to share by offering structure, tools, and community to unleash authenticity as demonstrated in the overwhelming response of gratitude.

In 2016 go to the news for stories of suffering. Go to Sacred Story for the rest of the story, perseverance producing character; character producing hope. Like our Facebook page and sign up by entering your email address on the right hand side of the home page to receive email alerts when a new post is added. Throughout the year myself as well as the other monthly contributors to the Sacred Story blog will continue to write on the themes of women’s stories and specifically in 2016 about God revealing Himself as the God of mystery, surprises, love, victory, discipline, pursuit, healing, comfort and change.
