Sacred Story’s Library of Inspiring Women’s Stories
Sister we are in this together. Our library contains encouraging stories from women who, like you, walk through chapters of questioning, grieving, loving, hoping, and surrendering. We pray you will pass on stories because hope is contagious. Our Teaching Moments offer perspective about living your story in light of God’s Word. We love to hear how you are impacted by what you read.

Missing Mom
The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. Psalm 34:18 I just spent my 14th Mother’s Day without my mom. It’s still hard to believe she’s gone. I remember the first Mother’s Day after she died –how much I dreaded it. The...
Did I Marry a Jerk?
Shawn's* story: When I got married I had this idea of what my husband was going to be like. I imagined someone gracious and talkative when I introduced him to friends and family. I imagined everyone recognizing how wonderful he was. I would beam when I introduced him...
Loss: Who Will Fill This Hole?
Jesus replied, "What is impossible with man is possible with God." Luke 18:27 Here I was again, facing a second devastating divorce, when my encourager said to me, “Consider the possibilities.” I was offended by her suggestion, as I considered all the terrible...
Picture Loss
"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by...
Buying My Castle
Darlene’s Story: I didn’t buy my first home until age 42 and was shocked the bank would give a 30 year loan to someone of my advanced years. OK, advanced years is an exaggeration but I certainly didn’t like the fact I would be 72 when the loan was paid off. My first...
He is With You
"But you will not even need to fight. Take your positions; then stand still and watch the Lord’s victory. He is with you, O people of Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid or discouraged. Go out there tomorrow, for the LORD is with you!" 2 Chronicles 20:17, NLT....
Is God a Giver or a Taker?
“The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised.” (Job 1:21) When I think about loss, there is a sadness that comes over me. I recently had a string of friends who lost their babies due to miscarriages or death after delivery. Another...
Befriending Loss
"Against its will, all creation was subjected to God's curse. But with eager hope, the creation looks forward to the day when it will join God's children in glorious freedom from death and decay." Romans 8:20-21 I am unpacking boxes and sorting stuff as I make a move...
The Most Important Prayer of Surrender
"Going a little ahead, he fell on his face, praying, 'My Father, if there is any way, get me out of this. But please, not what I want. You, what do you want?'” -Matt. 26:39 (The Message) Fresh from celebrating Easter, I continue to ponder what it meant for Jesus to...
The Final Surrender
Three days ago we celebrated Jesus’ victory over death and His opening wide the gates of heaven. We tried to linger with Him in Gethsemane on Thursday, and not hide our eyes when He was nailed to the cross on Friday. We sat by the tomb and we waited. On Sunday, we ran...
When Surrendering Requires A Plan
“The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty.” – Proverbs 21:5 (NIV) I’ve had moments in my life in which surrendering meant sobbing at my kitchen sink, snot across my face, hands in the air, saying, “I know you have this, God.” Okay,...
Adoption & My Wilderness
Di's* Story: I spent the last summer of my college years on a mission trip to China. Witnessing firsthand a culture where the girls are undervalued, and even abandoned in the hopes of having a baby boy, the Lord gave me a heart and vision for adoption. A few years...
